Belden announced the addition of its FiberExpress Brilliance field-installable ST connectors for 900 µm tight buffer fiber, SC/ACP connectors for tight buffer and 2 mm and 3 mm jacketed fiber, and LC and SC connectors for jacketed fiber.
With the addition of the ST-Type connector to the FiberExpress Brilliance Connector portfolio, the company notes that it now offers a comprehensive line of field-installable optical fiber connectors. “The ruggedness of the ST connector has made it a popular choice for many applications ranging from medical imaging to industrial networking,” said Dwayne Crawford, product line manager. “With the same 'No Epoxy, No Polish, No Crimp' design as all Belden FiberExpress Brilliance connectors, field termination becomes a viable option for these applications.”
The field-installable SC/ACP connectors for tight buffer and jacketed fiber were designed with Telcos and MSOs in mind. This connector provides a guaranteed performance of less than - 60 dB Reflectance to ensure maximum optical power without risking damage to valuable equipment due to back reflections. This connector, like the rest of the FiberExpress Brilliance lineup, has an extended temperature range of -40ºC to +75ºC making them suitable for applications where the temperature is not well regulated as found in outside plant equipment enclosures.

The FiberExpress Brilliance connectors for 2 mm and 3 mm jacketed fiber provide the customer with a non-destructive, re-terminable solution to eliminate the need to over-purchase connectors in order to compensate for installer yield. “Using the visual fault locator (VFL) included with the FX Brilliance precision installation toolkit provides instantaneous feedback of the termination quality to the installer prior to link testing,” added Belden's Crawford. “Finding and correcting installation issues with a re-terminable connector sooner in the process saves the installer significant time.”
Belden notes that architects, consultants and engineers will find this connector helpful in applications where 2 mm or 3 mm jacketed fiber provides a more robust solution over 900 µm tight buffered cable, and where pre-terminated cable assemblies may not be suitable.
Having access to all connector types from one manufacturer simplifies system design and procurement, ensuring smooth integration and a single point of contact for support, claims the company. The FiberExpress Brilliance connector lineup also has one common installation toolkit, as well as one common training and installation technique. The new field-installable connectors and kits will be demonstrated at the 2012 BICSI Winter Conference & Exhibition Booth #528, February 12-15, 2012 in Orlando, FL.
