Panduit Corp. has provided Ryerson University a complete 10-Gbit Ethernet end-to-end solution, consisting of the verified Panduit TX6 10Gig Copper Cabling System.
Ryerson University is located in Toronto, Canada. Installed in the school's Rogers Communications Centre, this system consisted of an optical fiber backbone with a combination of Category 6 and Augmented Category 6 horizontal cabling to the desktop for high-bandwidth data, voice and video applications.
The Rogers Communication Centre is one of the most-used buildings for students and the public for radio, TV, journalism and image arts. The priority of the university's Computing and Communications Services Department was to install the highest bandwidth, copper-based centralized network system.
"To accomplish our learning goals, we need to stay on the leading edge of technology," says Dr. Paul Hearty, director of the center. "We rely on our cabling infrastructure to give us the flexibility and the capability to allow this."
The Panduit TX6 10Gig Copper Solution was specified for 200 drops to the multimedia labs. This included the Mini-Com TX6 10Gig Jack Modules and TX6 10Gig Augmented Category 6 cable, which were terminated in the Mini-Com Modular Patch Panels in the telecom room and routed into the Mini-Com four-port Faceplates at the outlets.
The Panduit TX6000 Copper Cabling System for Category 6 voice and data for the remaining labs, classrooms and offices were terminated to Panduit TX6 Plus Category 6 Jack Modules.
"The Panduit TX6 10Gig Copper Cabling System delivers true end-to-end 10 Gbit Ethernet performance and each component features innovative complementary design technologies that work together to achieve optimum performance needed for the high-bandwidth broadband and broadcast applications at Ryerson," states Tony Etherington, datacomm specialist for Panduit Canada.
The Panduit TX6 10Gig Copper Cabling System was one of the first full 10-Gbit cabling systems to be third-party tested and approved in compliance with the IEEE 802.3an (Draft 2.0), TIA/EIA 568B.2-10-D10, and ISO/IEC 11801 Edition 2.1 (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 25 N 981A) draft proposals for supporting 10GBase-T transmission over unshielded twisted pair cabling.
