Sonnet Technologies’ Twin10G Adapter and PCIe Card incorporate two 25GBase-SR transceivers, enabling 10-GbE connectivity up to 300 meters.
Sonnet Technologies recently introduced the Twin10G SFP28 Thunderbolt Adapter and the Twin10G SFP28 PCIe Card. Each product adds dual-port 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) optical connectivity to a wide range of computers. The company says these dual 10GbE adapters are particularly beneficial for video content creation and output. Because these applications “have transitioned primarily to 4K resolution and beyond, 10GbE has become the de facto data transfer standard … however, most computers need an adapter to connect to 10GbE infrastructure.”
The adapter and card have LC interfaces, and both include two 25GBase-SR SFP28 transceivers, which Sonnet says “takes the guesswork out of choosing appropriate modules for the job, and enabling 10GbE connectivity at distances up to 300 meters.” They are macOS, Windows, and Linux-compatible. The adapter connects to computers with Thunderbolt 5, 4, or 3 ports, while the card is for computers with PCIe card slots and also suitable for use in a multi-slot Thunderbolt-to-PCIe card expansion system.
The adapter can be connected to infrastructure using a single port, or users can connect both ports “to exploit the adapters’ design for increased performance and reliability,” Sonnet points out. “By using two network connections, the adapters can seamlessly keep users’ computers connected in case a single cable is disconnected or one of the ports fails. The adapters’ SMB multichannel support also delivers increased scalability, enhanced load balancing, and reduced latency,” Sonnet concludes.
