The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.1 Engineering Committee on Premises Telecommunications Infrastructure on July 6 issued a call for interest for document TIA-5017-A, initially titled "Telecommunications Physical Network Security Standard."

In building out document TIA-5017-A, TR-42.1 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope:

"This document covers the security of telecom cables, pathways, spaces, and other elements of the physical infrastructure. It includes design guidelines, installation practices, administration, and management. It addresses guidelines for new construction as well as renovation of existing buildings.

The document also provides installation guidelines for implementing security cabling systems for premise security systems with an integrated security approach."

TIA says the proposed new standard will enable justification in the planning and installation of physical network security systems that protect critical telecommunications infrastructure elements.

Stakeholders are invited to contact TIA regarding participation in crafting the document. Stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: cabling system designers, consultants, architects, engineers; manufacturers, facilities management organizations, cabling contractors, and system integrators.

TIA is actively seeking participation in this project from the user and general interest communities. For more information about TR-42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Cheryl Thibideau at [email protected].
