TIA call for interest mulls infrastructure standard for ICT lifecycle management
The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has issued a new position paper on the need for standardizing information communications technology (ICT) infrastructure lifecycle management.
The paper describes how ICT environments of medium-to-large enterprises and government agencies have become increasingly complex, and why a new industry standard will help organizations improve the management of their infrastructure to maintain the level of service that customers demand.
“We have watched enterprise networks evolve rapidly over the last ten years with more software, cloud, IoT, smart technologies and applications,” noted Tom McGarry, vice president of standards at TIA.
McGarry continued, “As these networks grow more complex, properly maintaining ICT infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted service delivery has become a more difficult challenge. With an industry standard for lifecycle management, there will be a new resource that can help organizations regain control and visibility across their ICT network infrastructure.”

Call for Interest
In addition to the new position paper, TIA’s TR-60 Engineering Committee for ICT Lifecycle Management has issued an open call to all industry stakeholders for participation in the committee and development of a new standard, which will cover lifecycle planning, documentation, design, remediation and operation of ICT systems, infrastructure, and services
Specifically, concurrent with the release of the new position paper, the TIA TR-60.B Engineering Committee on Information Management has issued a call for interest for TIA-5077.1 titled, “ICT Lifecycle Management: Information Management Process- Technology.”
TIA-5077.1 focuses on life cycle management of the information about technology components of ICT infrastructure and their configurations. TIA said the standard will help organizations to plan, deliver, secure, and operate their ICT infrastructure with reduced project delivery times and capex/opex costs.
Topics covered by the standard include physical and virtual infrastructure including buildings, spaces, cabling, power, active equipment and supporting management systems.
Per TIA, stakeholders may include but are not limited to professional experts from: business enterprises, government agencies, education systems, healthcare systems as well as managed service providers, integration service providers, consultants and equipment manufacturers.
TIA is actively seeking participation from the user and general interest communities.
