Deviser says new wireless test tools deliver deeper network views

March 17, 2015
Deviser Instruments says its new wireless test and measurement products identify network issues more quickly than traditional tools, and with pinpoint accuracy.

At this week's International Wireless Communications Expo 2015 (IWCE 2015) in Las Vegas, Deviser Instruments, a new communications test and measurement company specializing in handheld tools for the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of wireless communications sites, announced several products designed to provide RF engineers, technicians and contractors with deeper views into the signal environment and site infrastructure of networks. Most notably at IWCE, Deviser Instruments, in a joint-venture partnership with Deviser Electronics, has launched its Profiler line of products, which identifies network issues more quickly (often in just 250 microseconds, claims the company) and with pinpoint accuracy. This capability improves wireless technicians' ability to get sites running faster, notes the company, and provides confidence that the job is done correctly, reducing future truck rolls and ultimately reducing opex.

The company adds that, "in today’s evolving wireless networks, RF coaxial cable, fiber optics, Ethernet backhaul and complex RF signals all converge upon the wireless site. Additionally, wireless service providers are expanding their networks to deliver greater content by deploying alternative infrastructures -- remote radio heads (RRH) and distributed antenna systems (DAS), among other small-cell alternatives -- most of which are fiber-based. Adding to the complexity of network site management is signal interference that adversely affects site transmission coverage, capacity and overall network performance. In order to properly install, maintain and troubleshoot these networks, contractors and network operators require a broader test set than ever. This leads to increased equipment needs, acquisition, training and service costs."

“Deviser Instruments addresses these challenges better than other test equipment vendors by integrating necessary test and measurement solutions for today’s evolving wireless networks into simple-to-use, configurable, high-performance economical products that improve productivity,” asserts Mike Tolaio, VP of sales and marketing for Deviser Instruments. “We enable RF engineers, contractors, installers and network operators to work in a way that simplifies their jobs, reduces cost of ownership and focuses on keeping networks up and running.”

Specifically, Deviser Instruments is showcasing the following products at IWCE:

SpectrumPROFILER E8400B and E8600B Spectrum Analyzers

Designed for wireless professionals and network operations teams, the handheld, battery-operated E8400B (9kHz to 4.0 GHz) and E8600B (9kHz to 6.0GHz) Spectrum Analyzer-based products are tools for spectrum analysis, complex-signal and interference analysis. Featuring superior sensitivity (DANL) and phase-noise performance at -158dBm and -90 dBc/Hz (1kHz offset), respectively, coupled with the instrument’s fast sweep mode (just 250 microseconds), the E8400B/E8600B can quickly identify small, transient signals that otherwise go undetected. As a result, the E8400B/E8600B improves site transmission coverage and eliminates capacity issues that can limit overall network performance and impact mobile device connectivity. The instruments include the following optional measurement modes: Interference Analysis, enabling users to see a "digital persistence spectrum" that identifies potential interfering signals laying next to or under a given signal, not typically in view of traditional spectrum analyzers; coverage mapping (indoor and outdoor); and comprehensive LTE testing (signal analysis and over-the-air testing).

SitePROFILER E7000L RF/Optic Cable & Antenna Analyzer

Designed for tower crews, contractors and installers, the handheld, battery-operated E7000L Cable & Antenna Analyzer (2MHz to 4.4 GHz) is a tool for installing, deploying and maintaining wireless networks. With 8 hours of continuous battery life, tower teams can now conduct a full-days’ testing on a single charge. Its rugged design protects against stray RF signals at active sites, ensuring accurate, repeatable measurements. In addition to traditional RF sweep measurements, the unit can be configured to test fiber-based feedlines. This enables installation teams to quickly confirm site performance of both RF coax and fiber-based feedlines to turn up sites and commission them faster.

SitePROFILER E7000B RF/Optic Cable & Antenna Analyzer

Designed for wireless professionals and network operations teams, the handheld, battery-operated E7000B Cable & Antenna Analyzer (2MHz to 4.4 GHz) is a tool for deploying, maintaining and troubleshooting wireless networks and adds both speed and fiber scope. The instruments’ high-performance sweep measurements include a fault location sweep speed of 1.15ms. This saves time and enables faster and easier determination of cable feedline faults and intermittent signals. Its rugged design protects against stray RF signals at active sites, ensuring accurate, repeatable measurements. Intelligent power-saving features can extend the unit’s battery life beyond its continuous six-hour rating to a full day of testing. In addition to traditional RF sweep measurements, the unit can be configured to test fiber-based feedlines. This includes fiber scope for fiber-connector inspection, enabling site maintenance and troubleshooting teams to quickly confirm site performance of both RF coax and fiber-based feedlines to get sites back up and running faster.
