Tempo Launches Online Learning Platform

Jan. 31, 2025
Part of the company’s Tempo University, the online learning management system includes free sessions covering fiber-optic theory, OTDR theory, TDR basics, and cable prep and validation. More courses are planned.

Tempo Communications recently launched a learning management system (LMS). The online LMS offers free on-demand courses “to equip technicians with the skills they need to excel in the field,” the company said when announcing it.

“Tempo University’s LMS is available to professionals in telecommunications, electrical, irrigation and related fields,” the company explained, emphasizing that the initiative reflects the company’s “commitment to providing technicians with the tools and knowledge they need.”

Courses available through the LMS are free of charge and available on demand, which Tempo points out provides time and location flexibility for learners. The courses deliver “practical, job-focused content to broaden expertise and build confidence,” the company said.

Upon its launch, Tempo University’s LMS offers four courses which it describes as follows.

  • Fiber-Optic Theory 101 (Beginner level): Equips the student with the essential knowledge of fiber-optic technology, including its fundamental principles, safety practices, and measurement techniques.
  • Precision Cable Prep and Validation (Beginner level): Covers the foundations of coaxial and Ethernet cable installation. Students will learn to identify cable types, understand wire mapping, and study termination techniques using proper tools and equipment—equipping them with the skills to create reliable cable connections for optimal network performance.
  • TDR Basics (Beginner level): Learn how a time domain reflectometer (TDR) helps find cable faults and improve network performance. The course covers how a TDR works, reading traces, and locating issues. By the end, students can confidently use a TDR for troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • OTDR Theory (Beginner/Intermediate level): Covers how an OTDR works, its key features, and the standards for accurate measurements. Students will also get practical tips on setting up the tool and reading the results. Course is appropriate whether the student is new to OTDRs or wants to improve skills in fiber-optic testing.

Tempo said it plans to “continually expand the library with content on PoE, irrigation systems and buried infrastructure location. These courses are designed to meet the real-world needs of technicians, ensuring they have the knowledge to tackle any challenge with confidence.”

Jason Butchko, Tempo’s president, commented, “Our mission has always been to equip technicians with the pro-grade tools and test equipment they need to get the job done right the first time. With industries onboarding thousands of new technicians, we recognize the growing need for accessible, high-quality educational resources. Tempo University LMS is our answer to that need—empowering professionals with the knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of today’s ever-evolving technical landscape.”
