CommScope has released its Understanding the RF Path, a secure eBook app.
CommScopehas released its Understanding the RF Path, a secure eBook app available for the iPad, iPhone, Android tablet or Amazon Kindle Fire. The book amasses nearly 200 pages of wireless industry expertise from the company's engineers and technical directors.
“[The eBook] brings the wealth of knowledge about wireless networks that exists inside CommScope out into the world,” said Philip Sorrells, vice president, strategic marketing, CommScope, as quoted by Data Center Journal. “This book has enough technical information in it to satisfy engineers while translating jargon into language the average industry person can understand. Our hope is that this book will preserve and advance knowledge across the wireless industry and beyond.”
Topics covered include: the history and evolution of wireless communications; cell site construction and network planning; the technology basics of antennas, remote radio heads, transmission lines and other RF path components; solutions for co-siting, passive intermodulation (PIM), network reliability and site monitoring; and specific applications such as distributed antenna systems (DAS), back-up power, microwave backhaul and network protection.
The book includes PIM system calculators aimed at network designers, as well as insights on network concepts, equipment and installation techniques. Also included: an overview of global frequency spectrum configurations and a glossary of wireless terms and acronyms. The platform supports social media sharing and offers embedded video content, as well as bookmarking and keyword searching. Available for easy download and with clear mobile readability, the eBook also allows users to share comments with other readers.
“We think there is something for everyone in this book, from a high-level view of the wireless communication industry down to some nitty-gritty physics formulas,” adds CommScope's Sorrells. “Publishing Understanding the RF Path is part of our ongoing effort -- including the CommScope Infrastructure Academy and Andrew Institute -- to educate industry players and promote best practices at the cell site and with other technology applications.”
