March 17, 2008 -- ADC announced that Scania, a manufacturer of heavy trucks, buses and engines, is using the ADC InterReach Unison in-building wireless solution to deliver high-quality mobile coverage at its main production facility in Sweden.
ADC says the InterReach Unison system is helping Scania to improve wireless reception for its employee mobile phones, thereby increasing the effectiveness of the company's business communications and reducing its carbon footprint.
According to a press release, Scania sought to improve wireless reception in its production facilities, but as an ISO14001 accredited company, also wanted an in-building wireless system that would reduce the microwave radiation given off by its employees' mobile phones as well as the amount of electrical energy needed to recharge them.
By using ADC's InterReach Unison system, Scania says its main production facility now has strong and uniform wireless coverage that allows mobile phones to use less signal strength, which minimizes the phones' microwave emissions and extends their battery life.
Working closely with Absolute Mobile, a Swedish indoor coverage provider, Scania says it looked at number of in-building coverage solutions from both vendors and cellular operators prior to selecting Absolute Mobile and the InterReach Unison solution from ADC.
"The InterReach Unison system stood out in terms of the coverage and signal quality it delivered," comments Leif Riiser, product manager responsible for telephony for Scania. "Not only did it reduce the signal produced by employee mobile phones, thus extending their battery life, it reduced the overall level of microwave radiation given off by mobile phones in our factory, which allowed us to meet our environmental target head-on."
"ADC offers an outstanding product in the InterReach Unison solution, making it easy for us to fully address our customers' issues," adds Lars Lindmark, vice president of sales and marketing for Absolute Mobile. "The Unison system's high performance and efficiency easily made it the most environmentally friendly solution available for Scania."
"Large facilities like the Scania plant require systems that can efficiently distribute a cellular signal to every area with high and uniform output," concludes John Spindler, vice president of product management for ADC. "With our InterReach Unison system, we offer the highest performance in a system that scales to accommodate facilities of any size, and that performance translates to lower emissions and energy costs for cellular phone users."
