Injector-diplexers combine WiFi and WiMax

Microlab's latest technology can combine or separate signals in the 2.4- to 3.8-GHz range with those from the 5.15- to 5.85-GHz range.

Microlab's BK-28N line of WiFi and WiMax combiners can combine or separate wireless LAN and WiMax in the frequency range 2.4 to 3.8 GHz with frequencies between 5.15 and 5.85 GHz. The manufacturer claims a signal loss of only 0.3 dB in the lower bands and 0.5 dB in the higher bands, guaranteeing "very efficient signal handling. Special low-loss strip lines achieve excellent loss values," Microlab says.

Wolfgang Damm, product marketing director of Microlab's parent company Wireless Telecom Group, explains the injector-diplexer combiners have "tuned-by-design technology," which he says, "eliminates the high cost of adjusting multiple cavities in conventional designs, while maintaining high 45-dB isolation between the bands. This is sufficient for most diplexer applications, such as sharing a common antenna or a distributed antenna system."

The company adds that the products have passive intermodulation values (PIM) of -150 dBc, measured with 2x20W carrier signals. They are available with a guaranteed PIM value lower than -160 dBc, for an additional testing charge.

Rated for average powers of up to 20W per band, the injector-diplexers come with standard N connectors. Special-order SMA connectors also are available. Evaluation samples also are available.
