Comba Telecom CriticalPoint Bidirectional Amplifier

Comba Telecom Inc. recently announced the upcoming availability of a VHF/UHF bidirectional amplifier (BDA) product set, designed for the public safety communications and Emergency Responder Communication Enhancement Systems (ERCES) industry. The CriticalPoint VHF/UHF BDAs can support frequencies from 150 to 175 MHz (VHF—very high frequency) and 406 to 512 MHz (UHF—ultra high frequency) to provide in-building wireless coverage of up to 700,000 square feet for public safety critical communications, the company explained when announcing the product platform. The new amplifiers come in Class A and Class B options and are software-configurable.

The new product set, which will begin shipping by February 28, 2025, complies with IFC 2024, NFPA 1225 2022, and UL 2524 3rd Revision, and is FCC- and ISED-certified. The platform supports single-band VHF, single-band UHF, or dual-band VHF/UHF configurations in one chassis box, which saves on space, labor and cost compared to other options, Comba Telecom pointed out.

The BDAs can support 3 sub bands of UHF, and one sub band of VHF in one chassis box. Duplexed and simplex configurations are available, and a number of filter and duplexer options allow users to meet even the most stringent frequency combinations, Comba Telecom noted.

Filters/duplexers are custom-tuned for specific frequency configurations, which minimizes the passband to protect from interference. The BDAs support P25 P1/P2 digital and conventional analog communication simultaneously. They offer up to 32 downlink and 32 uplink channel filters per band.

The amplifiers also feature a web-based graphical user interface with management port and separate configurable LAN port. They support SNMP V2c and V3, which allows for integration with remote monitoring systems.
